Happy new year :)
Hangover is a real thing at 25. I had one beer, this morning my head has a dull ache and spins.
Went to see Sinah yesterday. We went climbing. She had never climbed and I haven’t climbed in years. It was fun. She told me she broke up with Pascal and his behavior, I felt sad but also happy for her. Sinah is a catch, she’s beautiful, very very intelligent, top of our class, kind, caring, compassionate, and a good painter, if I have half of her talents in physics I would be in tears of gratitude. I thought he is way too arrogant to see he’s hardly going to find a match like her, ever, not only in the pool of nerds, but also on the general scale of humans.
But hey- men in their 20s, especially everything went smoothly, when they had most things they wanted without much trouble, from Kings to Cambridge, when world is two dimensional, when people still care or admire good grades and a title of a PhD, they would feel like they are on the top of the world and nobody’s good enough them. It’s understandable.
Stayed at Emily’s place. Played Mario cart together. Went to YG’s place together for the new year. Bernie- the only non Chinese knew how to cook and make dumplings better than any of us.
He asked when am I coming back to Mexico, I Iaughed, agreed we should arrange a trip together. I miss Mexico, the food, the sunshine, ah. I asked him how business is going, he said well and almost matching up his salary in the UK, he plans to quit at some point and open a restaurant. I’m glad things are working well for them. I went for a run by the river when they argued about the dumpling filling.
This morning we(I mean emily) cooked breakfast, had a conversation about our culture differences, I thought it’s really funny. She showed me her Lychee tree back home, I showed her my trees. I told her about the duck family that keep eating our strawberries- they timed it very well, every time it seems like the fruit is about to ripe, so I plan to leave it for another day to pick, next day it’s gone! I have videos of the ducks passing through our garden too. I checked the temperature back home, it’s -21 Celsius. ‘I want to have a farm.’ I said. ‘I love home grown food and fresh vegetables.’ ‘In China?’ She asked. ‘I thought you need to have the special Hukou for it.’ ‘No not necessarily.’ I said. ‘Anywhere will do. It depends.’
Mum leave fruits unpicked so animals can eat them. A couple of magpies and crows know her, they are pretty relaxed feasting in the garden. Occasionally she tell me bird gossip too, like the relationships between the group.
